Maternal Mental Health Matters

In the UK it is Maternal Mental Health awareness week; as a society we are increasingly aware of the importance of reaching out for help and not being ashamed to share our mental health concerns. However, it is estimated that 1 in 5 new mothers experience a perinatal mood associated disorder such as psychosis, anxiety or depression - shockingly 75% of those cases will go undiagnosed.

If you have recently had a baby and are having difficulties with your feelings, reach out. If you don't feel able to speak to friends or family or even a GP, there are a number of charities who are there to help such as the peer to peer support community www.pandasfoundation.org.uk, Please don't feel you are alone and know that this is NOT your fault.
